As carbon paste of high resistivity exhibits considerably larger fractional increase of initial resistance upon exposure to high humidity for prolonged period of time, it is the objectives of this study to first investigate the percentage increase in water uptake of a variety of carbon blacks, the fractional change in initial resistivity and the moisture uptake of cured carbon films. This was followed by incorporating carbon blacks into making carbon pastes of low and high resistivity. Thermal blacks and acidic or oxidized carbon blacks were selected to make carbon paste of high resistivity. A comparison was made to figure out which carbon black has the lowest fractional change in initial resistivity. This study showed the importance of proper selection of carbon blacks is essential to lower the fractional change in initial resistivity of curd film upon exposure to high humidity environment.
