This paper presents a simultaneous approach for alternative exploration, selection, and optimization for a product development under uncertainty. Under the proposed approach, designers create possible design alternatives (i.e., decision making units: DMUs) explored by DOE matrix. At the same time, for each alternative a combination of computer simulation and compromise programming is introduced as a transformational process to convert the design variables of DMUs into responses of interest (i.e., alternative optimal value). Both of them are used as DEA inputs and outputs respectively for a frontier analysis. Then, based on the alternative optimal values for all DMUs, the selected alternative through DMU analysis is the most optimal values from DOE exploration. Two examples representing for known and unknown design functions are introduced for demonstration respectively. The first example is to construct a structural design optimization with numerical method for computer simulation. The second example is a bike frame design optimization with software, ANSY, for computer simulation.
