工具機業是台灣少數能以自有品牌與世界競爭的產業，但面對中國大陸的低製造成本、韓國的FTA優勢、日本的貨幣貶值，嚴重壓縮台灣工具機的生存空間。工具機業欲在國際市場上競爭，則減少存貨以降低成本，降低缺料以增加產出，是兩項重要因素。
本研究以實證的方式，以某工具機廠為對象，深入了解個案公司的存貨管理運作，利用個案公司2010~2013年實際的歷史存貨紀錄，以訂單可見度為時間基準，分別探討製造前置期低於，相等、和大於訂單可見度的關鍵性零組件，提出一套研究模式配合盤存方法，以平均日庫存和平均缺料台-日數為衡量標準，在訂購成本相近或更低的情境下，與個案公司實際存貨績效做比較，研究的結果顯示，本研究模式提出的三種管理方式，一、實際需求加安全量。二、預測法加安全量。三、(s,Q)法。均比現況有更好的績效，能夠有效的降低個案公司的存貨成本和缺料率，具有經營管理上的參考價值。

Machine tool industry has become one of the most important industries in Taiwan for decades. A real case of a Taiwan machine tool manufacturer listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange is studied. Two major products of this machine tool company are C-frame vertical machining center and bridge-type machining center. Since inventory nightmare is not uncommon to most of the Taiwan machine tool companies.
This case study focuses on evaluating the proposed inventory control policies for certain key components of their C-frame machine tools with different length of lead time. The inventory control policies are tested under the condition in which all the customer orders exactly follow the same pattern as that of the past three years. The results show that the proposed inventory control policies outperform the policies employed by the company especially for reduction of inventory as well as shortage rate.
