This study proposes an Automatic Frequency Change (AFC) which is based on FM radio broadcast. It is implemented by two transmitters chips (Tx Chip) and a receiver chip(Rx Chip). In general, Tx 1 transfers the stereo FM signal in main frequency and Rx chip searches the blank frequency, which is called Alternative Frequency (AF). It also examines the quality of Tx 1 signal. When Tx 1 signal is interfered by noise, Tx 2 operates transmit in AF and make the receiver to be ready to change the channel from used frequency to AF.
We use Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) to search the AF, Signal-Noise Rate (SNR) to check the quality of Tx 1 signal, and Radio Data System (RDS) protocol to connect the receiver in order to change the channel in use.
In terms of the hardware, STC15L2S56K MCU is used as our control chip to control the Rx chip QN8035. In addition, Tx chips QN8027 is used to support RDS protocol by I2C interface. Algorithm involved in this study, this device can determine the interference and control the frequency in use automatically.
