According to the world economic data from Penn World Table as available on Feenstra, Inklaar and Timmer (2013), the thesis aims to investigate what the factors affect the share of labour compensation in GDP at current national prices. In addition, we will focus on the analyses of both human capital and efficiency in production. In other words, the dependent variables are share of labour compensation in GDP. The independent variables include the total-factor productivity, number of persons engaged, average annual hours worked by persons engaged, and index of human capital per person. Moreover, considering the effects of changes in exchange rate and government expenditures on the share of labour compensation, the exchange rate as national currency divided by USD and output-side real GDP at current PPPs are adopted in our empirical model. Finally, the sample period is from 1997 to 2011. It amounts to fifteen years and fifty countries as panel data of combining time series and cross sectional characteristics.
After the tests of various regression model, the thesis adopts the fixed effect regression model to estimate. Empirical results found that the increase in government expenditures is just shor-term effects on share of labour compensation. the long-term growth must depend on human capital level and efficiency in production. From the results of total-factor productivity, the negative relation is found in our models. Therefore, how to raise share of labour compensation and promoting the economic environment, the changes of industrial structures and the growth in human capital are mainly guiding principle of national development.
