Optical industry is a key development industry in Taiwan. The industry’s output value had grown from NT.115.4 to NT. 2 billions from 1996 to 2010 year. But 2012 Europe debt crisis resulted that the output value of 2012 only kept the same in 2010. Therefore, Taiwan's optical industry is under wide and cross-national challenge of the global competition. Because Taiwan is an export-oriented country, focusing on domestic market is not enough to compete with other multinational firms. Internationalization becomes a key factor for Taiwan enterprises to build competitive advantage.
According to knowledge-based theory(KBT), knowledge asset is a very important resource for a firm. Nevertheless, knowledge assets can't keep the competence forever, firms need knowledge absorptive capacity and organizational learning to create competitive advantage. The study will explore the relationship of knowledge absorptive capacity, organizational learning and firm's internationalization in Taiwan optical industry, and demonstrate the mediating effects of organizational learning. The research samples are the 121 optical companies in Taiwan, and the research period is from 2007 to 2011.The financial data are from TEJ database and patent data are from USPTO database. This study will use regression analysis to demonstrate the relationship between those variables. Empirical results findings are as follows: First, knowledge absorptive capacity has positive effect on firm's internationalization. Second, knowledge absorptive capacity has positive effect on organizational earning. Finally, organizational learning has positive and the mediating effect between knowledge absorptive capacity and firm's internationalization.
