ABSTRACT Nantun is one of the earliest developed area in Taichung, which is also the second hometown of jute. With the progress of times and changes of the society, the Nantun street has declined gradually. However, it still remains a lot of special culture. The target of this creative discussion is to preserve the local culture. Featuring the relics of Nantun culture, including pangolin, jute , cattles and glove puppet. The author put her nostalgic memories and feelings about the new hometown into her creative. And the images of children which was inserted in the creations tried to generate an imagine of dialogue. The purpose of this research can be divided into three parts. First, to recall the traditional culture which was gradually declined, and express the personal affection to the new home. Second, through this series of creations, the author traced back to her childhood, mixing the past innocence and local cultural characteristics. The both ingredients were turned into images and apply to the arts. Third, through the use of media on canvas, combine with the effect of texture, creating a memory during the changing times and convey personal creative thinking. In this study, fieldwork and literature are gathered to learn about the local characteristics of Nantun Street and through the theoretical way to understand how the changes of society impact in the art field. Also, the author got inspired from Taiwan Local painter and surrealist paintings. The result of texture studies was applied to the creative techniques and implemented in the theme of the creation. In the two series of creative practice, ” Shuttling back” and ” Condensation and reproduction”. The author combined her creation with creative ideas and creative vocabulary. Preserving the cultural relics of Nantun in this theory by recording it in an alternative way. Hoping that the wonderful memory and author's affection to the local could be carried forward and arousing residents’ sense of place and made them cherish their home.
