In facing the transformation of traditional concepts and art creation, the author thinks that the creative process of glue paintings is ambivalent. However, there always are issues and values that are paid close attention to in each era, and they are treasures worth exploration and citation.
In recent years, global warming has caused the abnormality of climate and the environment, and incessant disasters, making people begin to realize the importance of the natural environment, and to care about the living environment of animals due to the rise of environmental protection concepts and awareness of nature conservation. With the advancement of technology and civilization in the 21st century, humans infinitely expand their living and activity space, which impacts the environment and ecology, and leads to the disappearance of native habitats of species and the change of their habitats. In addition, humans hunt down or kill animals indiscriminately to make species become endangered and displaced. The author attempts to probe into the issue of survival rights between animals and humans through his art creation “Building • Residence.” Through self-speculation on the natural environment, history and literature, the author has created a kind of cooperation with real situations and integrated the element of artificial buildings to express that the variation and destruction of biotopes of other species are caused by the intervention of humans in natural ecology in the work.
The main subject of this thesis is “the right of habitation of animals.” When people think they have treated animals with a completely “humane” approach, do they really understand what animals need, or do they merely feel self-complacent? The issue is worthy of our reflection.
This thesis is divided into five chapters as follows. The first chapter is the introduction which chiefly describes the research motivation, scope and method of the creation, and the interpretation of terms. The second chapter is literature review on the relation between humans and the Nature. The evolution process of the relation starts out from humans' dependence on and respect for the Nature to keeping away from the Nature, and it has gradually elapsed between humans and all species in the Nature. The author feels that ecological and social crises have become more deteriorated, and he observes the relation between humans, species, and the environment, and ponders upon what inhabitation is and what kind of building is regarded as inhabitation. Moreover, he ponders upon the possibilities of integrating humans with species, and the environment with art. Through art language, the third chapter conveys that the inspiration of art creation comes from our daily life. Artists digest and ruminate over their social life experience, transform what they see or hear in life into art to show the inner emotions of their works and to bring out the emotions of viewers. The chapter also mentions the creative origin of “Building • Residence,” and what matters have inspired the creation. In addition, it talks about guidelines for the entire creation by reorganizing and constructing the author’s creative process with the thought of self-awareness and by extending the animals’ right of habitation with the concept of homeland and non-homeland. The fourth chapter introduces the creative philosophy and analysis of Building • Residence and interprets the work from its creative philosophy and form. The work reveals the relation between the creator and environment. In addition to the will and emotions of the creator, the chief keynote is the direct and indirect input of awareness his surroundings have brought to him. The fifth chapter is the conclusion in which the author reflects upon his creative process and the development direction of his glue paintings.
