參照英文摘要
With the increase of globalization, sending employees on international assignments has become a common practice for multinational corporations. While companies invest a lot in sending their employees off, they often overlook the benefits returning employees can bring to their company. Consequently, repatriation remains to be a challenge for international companies and repatriates. The knowledge and skills obtained by repatriated employees is often underutilized or completely lost if they leave their jobs.
This master thesis reviews articles in the field of repatriation and analyses interviews to provide suggestions on specific measures to be adopted by one Taiwanese multinational corporation to improve its process of repatriation.
Through semi-structured interviews, the views of repatriates and human resources specialists about current repatriation activities of the Taiwanese multinational corporation are examined. The respondent’s key points of criticism are a lack of formal policies for repatriation, insufficient communication during the time abroad, missing sponsors within the company to assist the repatriate, and a lack of recognition of the repatriate´s work overseas. Improving the repatriation process will help the Taiwanese multinational corporation to retain their returning employees, to better utilize their skills and knowledge and to create a sustainable competitive advantage in the market.
