ABSTRACT

International labor migration in Vietnam has rapidly increased since the early 1980s when the Vietnamese government opened up the country mainly to the member countries of the former Soviet Union and Eastern European countries. Since 1992, Vietnam has found new markets in many developed countries and territories such as South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Middle East. The current study aims to explore factors influence on career choice decision of working abroad among Vietnamese labor. The theoretical framework has been drawn out and questionnaire was designed based on the subjective factors chosen by authors. Exploratory factor analysis is a statistical method mainly applied in this research to uncover the underlying structure of a relatively large set of variables that affect the situation and trends of career choice and development determined by Vietnamese labor. The data are also carried out by using multiple statistical analyse, including reliability analysis, mean point value, and multiple linear regressions. The results found by regression analysis approach shown that the most significant factors affecting Vietnamese migrant’s decision to work overseas in Taiwan were individual capacity, impact from family and financial reasons. Through this study, the researcher hopes to provide useful findings for policy makers and government who have responsible for protecting migrant workers’ rights and for anyone who cares about positive and negative sides of working abroad.
