The purpose was to identify factors influencing oral health status among Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan who might be at higher risk of poor oral health due to low educational levels, high tobacco and alcohol consumption, with pressure as well as changes on dietary habits than their counterparts in home country. A cross-sectional survey with snowball sampling technique was conducted. A total of 135 participants completed the questionnaire and plaque scoring test. The mean age of the participants was 31.7 years (SD=5.7), more than half (51.1%) of them were female, the average length was 42.1 weeks, and the mean of plaque index score was 55.2 (SD = 37.7) . The results from multiple linear regressions indicated that alcohol consumption, current oral health practices, factory vs. care provider and sugar intakes were significantly contributed to predict participant’s oral health status. In addition, gender gap in oral health was observed in this study and resulted from risky behaviors such as tobacco and alcohol consumption, acculturation, and oral health practices. A bilingual and culturally sensitive intervention on oral health targeting Indonesian migrant workers is very crucial to enhance their oral health status.
