Puppetry is a special form of theater in the space of Performing Arts. It has its own context and origin of development. Given the development of puppetry art in Taiwan today still remains mostly in the fields of traditional theater and children theater, the performance combining puppetry and the creative elements of modern theater, rising with the contemporary art movements in the 20th century, gives a transformational direction to puppetry’s experiment, expansion, and innovation. “The Puppet & Its Double Theater” is one of few modern puppetry groups with stable development today. From children's puppetry to adult's puppetry, Tradition to Modern, exploring all the possibilities of puppetry. Constantly exploring various experimental, creative puppet performances as well as creating a dialogue with the audience. “The Puppet & Its Double Theater” is a very unique, multivariate theatre group in the contemporary theater in Taiwan. Both “Yoko” and “Der Schönste Moment” were adapted from novels and challenged the form of performance by vastly combining monologues and the element of puppetry. The unique feature is the alternation between virtual and reality - men and puppets on the stage together, where the puppetry performers can interact and have conversation with his or her puppets. In the thesis, I will discuss the design of context, form of performance and concept of theme of the two puppetries based on the nature of theater and the characteristics of puppetry, and analyse and discuss the development of modern puppetry. To confirm "Modern Puppetry" takes the screenplay story and the overall performance atmosphere as the main pillars, and then finds the appropriate form of performance.
