There are around 600 million poor rural farmers around the world. In Honduras, 63% of the rural population live in poverty and out of that 63% 50% live in extreme poverty. It is time to lend a helping hand to the most hard-working people in the world: farmers in rural areas. In Honduras out of a working population 2.13 million people, 834,900 of them held agricultural jobs. Its promising not only help the farmers but help country economic growth. To accomplish this goal, farmers must be taught how to care for the environment in a way that promotes their best effort and reinforces respect for nature.
Through a rigorous marketing study a business plan to help farmers start growing bamboo in Honduras has been done. A Kano model is used to analyze and identify the most important traits and marketing tools such as the Porter’s 5 Forces Analysis, the Boston Consulting Group Matrix, and a Strength Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats analysis is done for the proposed project of Hondbamboo. Hondbamboo acts a business plan in direct response to the alarming number of farmers who are fighting to make ends meet everyday. The goal of our program is to identify farmers who are willing to make a transition to a more sustainable crop and to provide support during the first stages of their harvest. Hondbamboo will also act as a platform to help position finished bamboo products in the market. The focus of training varies through each stage of the harvest and subsequent harvests but the goal remains the same: to educate people to make more sustainable choices and have several options for farmers to make profit; both on the downstream and upstream the supply chain. The following research explains in detail the market studies and the feasibility plan for a project like this in Honduras.
