隨著九年一貫課程的實施,英語教育的重要性獲得更多的關注。在教學的場域中,教師是影響學生語言習得最關鍵的角色。除了教師,英語教材也是相當重要的部分,英語教材的適當與否,會直接影響到教學的成果,因此,教材的選擇對教師、行政人員與家長來說,都成了一門重要的課題,在教材選擇的過程中,許多內在與外在的決定性因素都會影響到教師們的決定。本研究旨在使用「消費者決策模式(the CDP Model)」分析教師的教材選擇行為,經由消費者行為的觀點分析,本研究提供教師、學校、教科書編輯群、作者及出版社英語教材選擇全面而完整性的探討與了解。
本研究邀請30位中台灣彰化縣兒童英語補習班的教師填寫問卷,經由描述性統計、卡方檢定、次數分配與圖示法、顯著性考驗,以及質化資料來進行資料的統計與分析。
本研究的結果摘要如下:
1.引起學生動機為教師選用教材的主要需求考量,而且教師通常經由書局收集教材更新或出版的資訊。教材的內容及難易度為教師選用教材的主要考量,購買教材方便性則為主要的外部影響因素。大部分教師對於教材外觀及排版因素較不在意。
2.性別與教學年資在影響教師選用教材的決定因素上,部分具有顯著差異。
3.大部分教師認為目前坊間與使用中的教材在聽力練習與活動及相關的補充上較不足,有需要改進之處。大部分教師希望教材的內容與句型練習能夠更新,並能與學生日常生活有所連結。

With the implementation of Nine-Year Integrated Curriculum (NYIC) in Taiwan, the importance of English education are getting more attention. In the scene of teaching and learning, teachers are the most critical roles that affect children’s language acquisition. In addition to teachers, teaching materials are also a significant part. The appropriateness of teaching materials will determine the result of education (Liou, 2009). Therefore, the selection of teaching materials becomes a significant subject for teachers, administrators and parents. In the process of selection, many determining factors which include internal and external factors would influence teachers’ decision. The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers’ selection of EFL teaching materials by the Consumer Decision Process (CDP) model. This study would provide teachers, schools, writers, and publishers a comprehensive discussion and understanding of the selection of EFL teaching materials from the process of the consumer behavior.
The study invited thirty children’s English cram school teachers in Changhua county, in middle Taiwan, to fill out the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, frequency distribution, graphic figures, and tests of significance were applied to analyze the data. The study also with qualitative findings offered deeper and more information for EFL educators and institutes.
The finding of the study are summarized as follows:
1. To arouse students’ interest is the main need consideration when teachers select the EFL teaching materials. Teachers usually collect the information about EFL teaching materials by visiting bookstores. The contents of EFL teaching materials is the major concern. The convenience of purchasing is the first external factor that affect teachers’ selection. Most teachers are not satisfied with the surface-related factors.
2. There is significant difference in some items among determining factors in cram school teachers’ selection of EFL teaching materials by gender and teaching seniority.
3. Most teachers think that the arrangement of listening activities and exercises needs to be improved. Teachers hope the contents and sentence patterns of the EFL teaching materials could be updated frequently and related with daily life.
