20世紀美國著名的音樂家伯恩斯坦( Leonard Bernstein, 1918-1990 )，是位才華洋溢的作曲家、指揮家、評論家及優秀的鋼琴家，一生以指揮為名。伯恩斯坦於1948年以色列獨立戰爭期間，帶領以色列愛樂管弦樂團巡迴演出，大獲好評。於1944至1957年間，足跡遍布美國與歐洲各地，並與以色列愛樂密集合作。於1957至1969年間，受聘擔任紐約愛樂管弦樂團音樂總監，並榮獲「桂冠指揮」的稱號。
伯恩斯坦的作品豐富且多樣化，並具有獨特創作風格，其中最著名的作品為1942年的管弦樂作品《第一號交響曲，「耶利米」》 ( Symphony No.1 , Jeremiah )、1955-1957年所創作的音樂劇《西城故事》 ( West Side Story )、以及1973年輕歌劇憨第德( Candide )。伯恩斯坦同時也是一位傑出的鋼琴家，雖然一生所創作的鋼琴作品為數不多，但皆為富有創意的經典之作。他的作品結合了現代音樂創作技巧以及爵士元素，表現出豐富的節奏感，並在樂譜上清楚的標明音樂術語的彈奏指示。主要作品包括《四個紀念日》( Four Anniversaries )，《五個紀念日》( Five Anniversaries )，《七個紀念日》( Seven Anniversaries )，《十三個紀念日》( Thirteen Anniversaries )及《觸鍵》( Touches)。
　　《觸鍵》創作於1980年，此曲受委託為第六屆克萊本國際鋼琴大賽( Sixth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition )所作的指定曲，為鋼琴獨奏曲目。整部作品包括聖詠、八段變奏和尾奏，作曲家以聖詠般的旋律為主軸，運用豐富不同的觸鍵變化做短小篇幅的變奏，表現出非常多層次的力度，展現豐富萬變的鋼琴色彩。本論文主要以伯恩斯坦之鋼琴作品《觸鍵》進行樂曲分析及詮釋探討，希望能在演奏上更貼近作曲家的創作想法，並藉此研究能深入認識伯恩斯坦的作品。

One of the most famous American musicians of the 20th century, Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), was a talented composer, conductor, pianist and critic. During Israel's War of Independence in 1948, Bernstein received world acclaim by leading the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra on a number of concert tours. Over the period 1944-1957, Bernstein cooperated with the Israel Philharmonic intensively and left his footprints all over the United States and Europe. From 1957 to 1969, he was appointed as the music director of the New York Philharmonic, and was given the prestigious title of "Conductor Laureate".
Bernstein's varied and plentiful works contain a unique creative style, of which the most notable are the orchestral work Symphony No.1, "Jeremiah" in 1942, the musical "West Side Story" in 1955-1957, and the opera "Candide" in 1973. Bernstein was also an outstanding pianist. Although he has not written many piano works during his lifetime, the ones he did write are original and important. His works reveal a combination of modern music and jazz elements which show rhythmic richness and contain precise marks and musical terms in the playing instructions. His representative works include "Four Anniversaries", "Five Anniversaries", "Seven Anniversaries", "Thirteen Anniversaries" and "Touches".
The solo piano work "Touches" (1980), was commissioned by the Sixth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition as the set piece. It includes Chorale, Eight Variations and Coda, in which the composer used the different kinds of touch methods to create a variety of dynamics and colors. This thesis focuses on interpretation and analysis of Bernstein's piano work "Touches", to better acquaint the reader with Bernstein's works and creative ideas and hopefully provide performance tips.
