The current pusher mechanism of bent shank nut tapper is driven by pneumatic cylinder. The pressure of the pneumatic cylinder is not easy to remain steady in working cycles. The thread is over cut or extruded when the push pressure is too high. Moreover, it decreases the tool(tap) life. The thread hole is reamed not tapped when the push pressure is not enough. To improve these disadvantages, this study will research and develop a cylindrical cam mechanism to instead of pneumatic cylinder pushing mechanism, and also achieve the tapping way of pitch-lead-thread. The verification results of the proposed design by computer simulation and prototype experiments can improve the disadvantages of existing mechanism and increase the capacity up to 20~30%.
