當全球化的流動空間中,移動已成為現代人的常態,公民的行動權利也包含了公共空間是否提供每個人一個友善的環境,並讓其在快速的現代生活中,有效率的到達目的地。位居台灣首要城市的台北車站是台北市最重要的交通樞紐,其中的捷運系統連結台北、新北,與桃園對內的北台灣交通,也通達對外的機場交通。具多樓層、多功能的室內地下建築特色,北車卻也是許多旅人榜上的一大迷宮。此研究探究北車北捷是否為一個旅客友善的空間,其建築中具雙語服務的標示、地圖、廣播、及任何方向性指示是否提供有效的訊息給旅客,讓其到達目的地?透過理論的爬梳,此研究呈現空間認知及尋路策略如何被形塑,以及何謂設計良好的標識系統與公共交通空間。再者,以(輕)質性(重)量化的混合研究方法,企圖將不同且複雜的空間使用狀況,經訪談和問卷,表現出一般性、系統性又不失個別性的北車北捷使用者狀況的資訊。在資料分析與理論討論之後,此研究強調另種尋路策略供北車北捷和其使用者參考:此為具方位定位的空間認知,尋求對整體空間的了解,以解決北車北捷因不斷擴張及改變而容易產生迷路的現況。
In the flow of globalization, moving and traveling have become modern people’s routine. It could be seen as a right of mobility that public spaces should provide each individual with a friendly environment and allow people to travel to their destination. In Taipei City, Taipei Main Station plays a pivotal role in public transportation. Its MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system connects Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City in the northern region of the island, and it also links to airports that travel to the world. As a multi-functional underground construction with multiple levels, Taipei Main Station, however, is recognized by travelers as a notorious labyrinth. This study examines if Taipei Main Station and the MRT system is a traveler-friendly space and if the signs, maps, announcements, and instructions in Mandarin Chinese and English effectively inform passengers to head to their destinations. The theoretical discussion shows how spatial cognition and wayfinding strategies are used, and what well-designed signage and public transportation environments should be like. Moreover, through interviews and questionnaires, this qual-to-QUAN mixed research methods study reveals MRT users’ different and complicated approaches in moving in the spatial environment in the hope of presenting generalizable and systematic data that can help determine individual issues and solutions in Taipei Main Station. After data analysis and theoretical discussion, the study offers the MRT system and its users another wayfinding strategy: a global, geocentric spatial frame of reference may resolve the sense of disorientation in the expanding and changing Taipei Main Station MRT in Taipei City.
