In such a dynamic environment, for pursuing superior performance and sustainable development, strategic selection is extremely significant for business. By studying the electronic companies listed in Taiwan’s stock market from 2005 to 2014, we divided strategies into five groups —“low cost strategy”, “differentiation strategy”, “high level hybrid strategy”, “hybrid strategy” and “non-cost strategy”. Based on the resource based view, we discuss whether there is the best strategic group which is fixed, the best switch pattern and how to change strategies.
Our study used the panel data to analyze. The empirical results show that the fixed and the best strategy does not exist in Taiwan Electronics Industry. Besides, according to our study, there is no better performance on switching pattern. It means that different strategic choices are not the main factor to tell distinct performance. However, how to execute the strategy is much more important for firms. Next, the empirical results also show that changing strategies in high speed will not keep good performance. Moreover, firms need to think through the relationship between the changing direction and strategic conformity. The speed of changing strategic conformity on performance had a positive interaction effect. In others word, when changing strategies, firms need to consider speed and direction of strategies simultaneously so that the company performance will rise. Our study will enhance the reference on the relationship between the speed of strategic change and performance. It also offers significant research implications for managers.
