The present research work “IMPACT ON THE CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES AS A RESULT OF THE LIFTING OF THE TRADE EMARGO PLACED ON CUBA BY THE UNITIED STATES” is held in order to inform the readers about the causes that drove the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States. This exploration will include the political, commercial, and social implications that the reopening of the Cuban trade borders will have on the Caribbean countries after more than fifty years of economic sanctions.
The prolonged economic, commercial and financial embargo that the United States has maintained on Cuba has been studied in many ways to denounce it. In this way, Cuba and the world can know its roots, illegality, its true purpose and its consequences. Despite that, none of the scholars have described what the consequences would be for Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean countries once the embargo is lifted. There may be a potential light at the end of the tunnel cause by reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two states in 2014.
This research aims to be a contribution to the body of knowledge investigating the possible impact to Cuba and the Caribbean countries caused by the lifting of the embargo place on Cuba by the United States. It aims to be a point of reference for future international decision making and higher education.
The economic, commercial and financial blockade that has been imposed on Cuba, is not only consistent with its hegemonic and imperial basis, but it also complicates the development of Cuban society and its national security. If the embargo is finally lifted, the Cuban government and its society need to be ready for the challenges this will bring. The Caribbean countries, at the same time, need to understand if the lifting of the embargo will be a threat or an opportunity for their economies and stability.
