Abstract
The healing effects of Earthing have been newly and compellingly evidenced by contemporary scientific research, though Earthing is a primordial healing method that humans have unwittingly abandoned for a long time. In reality, the Earth not only provides us food and water, but also contains a subtle electrodynamic power to interact with human bodies, thereby promoting homeostasis and mental equilibrium. In modern society, the expenses which people pay for health care have greatly increased year by year. Earthing is a simple and effective approach toward reducing pharmaceutical needs and medical therapies. Thus, “the Umbrella Effect of Earthing” can shield the human bodies from the electropollution of ambient electromagnetic fields in daily life. This thesis mainly addresses the effects of the natural energy emanating from the Earth on one’s health and psyche.
In this thesis, to evidence the effects of Earthing in physiology and psychology, the researcher devised an experiment involving 40 minutes of Earthing. 10 participants took part in this experiment totally. The researcher measured 5 symptoms of each participant’s physiology, including systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature and respiratory rate per minute before, during and after Earthing. After the experiment, the researcher examined the changes in these physiological measurements, and obtained the participants’ responses based on their perception of Earthing.
On the basis of the research literature and this qualitative research result, some suggestions are offered as follows. The government needs to construct more public green spaces and natural components (i.e. tress, water), where people are able to walk barefoot, sit or lie on green grass, soil, stone, sand or to wade barefoot off beaches. With simply and properly designed Earthing equipment, hospitals can utilize Earthing therapy as a complementary medicine, besides employing current chemical treatment. People, especially patients, need to do Earthing, because it prevents and heals ailments of various sorts, reduces physiological pain, and relieves psychological stress.
