所謂沙塵暴係指強風捲起大量地表沙塵，使能見度惡化的沙塵天氣，基本上是乾旱與沙漠化氣候環境的產物，氣象學家上把地面能見度低於1公里者稱「沙塵暴」，強烈的沙塵暴可能使能見度小於50公尺，俗稱黑風。在每年的冬末及春季，中國北方地區經常會發生沙塵暴，揚起的沙塵多半隨高空西風帶向東傳送，進而影響日本、韓國等地，只有在少數的特殊氣象條件下，沙塵才會影響到台灣。但是近年來因為中國內蒙地區沙漠化情形日益嚴重，再加上全球氣候變遷導致乾旱、降雨分配不均等因素影響下，沙塵暴的發生頻率及強度都有增加之趨勢，因此對我國的影響也明顯增強。
收集高屏地區2009年04月至2010年03月份高屏地區大寮、小港、仁武、左營、林園、前金、前鎮、屏東、恆春、美濃、復興、楠梓、鳳山、潮州、橋頭共計15個空氣品質監測站的自動監測懸浮微粒（PM10）、細懸浮微粒（PM2.5）及相對濕度（RH）即時監測數據，期間共經歷過4次沙塵暴。藉由沙塵暴發生時期以及當下的相對濕度( RH）來研究沙塵暴發生時期本身以及沙塵暴對於懸浮微粒以及相對濕度是否有明顯的影響。

Sandstorm refers to a lot of dust and sand which was blown by strong wind from the surface, causing deterioration of visibility, which is basically a result of drought plus desert climatic environment. Meteorologists define the ground visibility less than 1 kilometer as “sandstorm”. Strong sandstorm may reduce the visibility to less than 50 meters and it is commonly called Black blizzard. In every spring and late winter, Chinese north area frequently appears sandstorm. The generated dust and sand are mostly blown to the east by upper westerly wind, bringing further influences on Japan, South Korea and other areas. Only under some rare special weather conditions, these dust and sand can affect Taiwan. However, as the desertification of inner-Mongolia area is becoming serious, and the influences from drought, uneven rainfall and other outcomes caused by global climate changes, the frequency and intensity of sandstorm are showing a rising trend and thus providing significantly enhanced influences on Taiwan.
We collect the real-time monitoring data of PM10, PM2.5 and RH from 04.2009 to 03.2010 from 15 air quality monitoring stations in regions of Kaohsiung and Pingtung, including Daliao, Siaogang, Renwu, Zuoying, Linyuan, Cianjin, Cianjhen, Pingtung, Hengchun, Meinong, Fusing, Nanzi, Fongshan, Chaozhou, and Ciaotou. There have been 4 sandstorms during the period. Based on the data of sandstorm occurrence and the RH then, we conduct research on the phenomenon of sandstorm and explore whether it conduct obvious influences on PM10 and RH.
