This study is aimed to look at the application of project management in the academic sector in Taiwan’s University, focusing on whether and to what extent academic institution can managing projects by using project management professional (PMP) principles and restricted to one top university.
The findings confirmed that projects in the university are PM-based considering certain structural similarities but not suitable to PMP structure since the deliverable and inherent uncertainty factors in the university are not addressed by project management professional (PMP) principles. It will also look at the school culture of the academic profession that is focused on retaining traditional.
On the whole, it considers how project management can be applied to influence the academic research process as to beneficial it. The analysis performed in this paper conclude Project Management Professional(PMP) principles not suitable but still can be applied to the academic project.
