Under the advancement of manufacturing techniques and innovative managerial approaches, how data can be integrated to support corporate decision-making is imperative. This study explores the electrolytic capacitor industry that adopts the conventional data-code method to manage its manufacturing process. However, this method still has a great room for improvement regarding information linkage between various management systems, such as those for production, material, inventory, and customer services. This study integrates a two-dimensional (2D) bar code system with manufacturing equipment for aluminum electrolytic capacitors, thereby adequately managing the manufacturing process and controlling product quality. The bar code system was used to collect data and provide a reference for decision-makers. This case study reviews relevant literature to confirm the research domain and explore the development background of electrolytic capacitors. Analyses are conducted to discuss why manufacturing industries continue to use such capacitors, and data and conclusions of previous studies are examined. Accordingly, the research scope of the present study can be determined. Information and literature related to bar code technology is compiled, and particular attention is paid to related studies, journals, and books about 2D bar code systems. Subsequently, commercially available 2D bar code systems are evaluated to decide the version to be implemented in this study, and related suppliers are consulted to discuss applicability and subsequent implementation. By using the 2D bar code system to conduct management, this study achieves the following benefits: First, bar codes are directly printed on parts to monitor product quality in manufacturing factories and manage the movement of parts in production lines and supply chains; this enables customers and factory personnel to identify parts through the 2D bar codes and collect related information, improving the production monitoring of end products. Second, when faced with unsatisfactory product quality and customer complaints, the proposed system facilitates firms in strengthening the processes for tracking product quality and conducting rollbacks. During product recalls and repair, the 2D bar codes directly printed on the parts enable the retrieval of complete manufacturing records, thereby allowing real-time and adequate solutions to related problems.
