This study would explore the innovative design, maintenance and a little fixed of African striking maraca- Asalato. Asalto is a musical instrument by using a string to string up two African fruit of Oncoba Spinosa, then filling the granule with particle material. It is a African traditional percussion, while shaking two balls hit each other by hands and produce knocking with rustle sound. Asalato is mainly distributed in western Africa, Senegal, Ghana and other African areas, where the Oncoba Spinosa grow. There is no Oncoba Spinosa tree in Taiwan because of climate and environmental factors. However, Asalato has been an emerging world music instrument in past decade. To grow Oncoba Spinosa trees in Taiwan will not be a reachable goal for the time being. The Taiwanese performers could only get the fruit of Oncoba Spinosa depending on import. The researcher has tried diffirent types of material to make Asalato as solving the difficulty to get the original fruit of it. And the original fruit of Asalato is not hard enough, it could be broken, and become deformed during the long time of practicing and performance. With a view to the fact, the researcher is to look for the available material in Taiwan to make Asalato with the same striking sound effect. By the way, this will encourage Taiwanese to design and make Asalato better. Providing Asalato performers and entry-level students have better Asalato material and academic environment.
