柴可夫斯基(Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, 1840-1893)一直沒有很認真的思索寫作鋼琴三重奏的必要性，直到他的朋友尼可拉．魯賓斯坦(Nikolai Gregoryevich Rubinstein, 1835-1881)在西元一八八一年三月逝世。尼可拉．魯賓斯坦是當時著名的鋼琴家、作曲家還有莫斯科音樂院第一屆的院長，他同時也是柴可夫斯基作品最嚴厲的審核者跟最忠誠的支持者，為了紀念他，柴可夫斯基創作了A小調鋼琴三重奏，作品五十，並在其上寫下一個副標題：「一位偉大藝術家的追憶」。這首三重奏分為兩個樂章，兩個樂章都充滿了柴可夫斯基特有的雄偉壯大、高亢遼闊的音域跟交響曲式的寫法，在這首作品中也有一個特別的結構，也就是在第二樂章變奏曲部分之後跟隨的奏鳴曲式樂章。

本文主要分為四個部份，第一部份介紹柴可夫斯基的生平時代背景與音樂特色；第二部份則是描寫此首三重奏的創作起源、音樂特色跟結構分析；第三部份則是探討此三重奏的作曲手法、和聲跟兩個樂章所運用的素材，最後則是以鋼琴合作者的角度給予演奏上的建議。

Tchaikovsky did not turn seriously to the idea of composing a piano trio for a long time until the death of his friend Nicolai Rubinstein in March 1881. Rubinstein was a famous pianist, composer and the first director of the Moscow Conservatoire. Rubinstein had been at once Tchaikovsky’s severest critic and most ardent supporter. To commemorate Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky wrote the dedicatory subtitle on this work, “A la mémoire d’un grand artiste”. This work contains two movements, which are full of the grand, sweeping climaxs and symphonic writings that are often associated with Tchaikovsky’s compositional style. The structural plan of this work—a sonata movement followed by a set of variations in the movement Ⅱ—is somewhat unusual.

This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part of this thesis is an introduction of Tchaikovsky and the background of his music style. In the second part, the compositional background of this work was described. The third part contains an analysis of the musical structures, uses of tonality and the different meters of the two movements. For the conclusion, interpretative suggestions from the perspective of a collaborative pianist are given.
