Every year, thousands of homeless animals, often stray dogs and cats, are taken into public and private animals shelter around Taiwan and also around the world. Media outlets such as documentary film, book, news, online advertisement and even artivism (defined as the combination of art and activism) have raised this issue in the past to the general audience.
The objective of the paper is to examine art as a mean of raising awareness to animal rights in Taiwan through the feedback and responses of an artivism exhibition. This research will include a case study that examines an artivism exhibition called the "Voice of Void x Animals Taiwan” as the main object of this research.
The exhibition focused on promoting Animals Taiwan Rescue Centre (台灣動物協會) which is located in Taiwan that advocates for the improvement of homeless and stray animals in Taiwan. This research will use the narrative-qualitative methodology and also include a semi-structured interview to provide feedback and responses from exhibition attendees.
The research aims to argue that art is a powerful tool that can raise public awareness on social issues like animal rights improvement in Taiwan.
