本創作論述是一篇個人2013年至今的藝術探索。對於「創作」,有些人藉此表述了自己;宣達了自己的訴求、立場等等,對於我而言,創作引發我對事物及自己有更深入的思考。在試圖去把自己釐清,且將自己腦中意念傳達出來的創作過程中,使我更認識、更瞭解自己以及如何去抒發及傳達出自己的內心情感。某部分創作是一個讓我更知道自己是誰的過程,而書寫論述的過程則在定位我的創作在當代藝術的位置。如同傅柯所說:「正規性的凝視」,意指知識在凝視與再現的領域中形成。透過畫家從自畫到畫面中看見自己的再現方式,了解到自己的位置,並知道自己是替郡主作畫,而形成自己書寫的位置,其中有著雙重了解的特別意義。
現今的我毋須替郡主作畫,只需為自己所知所見來創作。而在這出發點下的我對應著科技日新月異及資訊洪流的現今,除了視覺訊息的龐大快速外,即時及一次性觀看、資訊的點擊、轉載、分享、回應成為我例行的動作,而這動作逐漸擴大成一張形塑自我樣貌的網,也像是一個不斷增生自我的媒體,這是當代紀錄與書寫歷史的特殊方式。
在日復一日的日常實踐中,我開始以圖像為出發點創作出身處環境所衍伸出的個人感受及觀點,部分是直覺式的展現,部分也是將事物對我的影響,或腦中所想到的,化為圖像,使用快速的app軟體畫下後,立即放上網路,和周遭的朋友們作一個小抒發、小抱怨或小療癒,這是圍繞在個人“類日記”的創作中使用數位媒介及社群平台來描繪現代社會樣貌的歷程。這樣的個人抒發雖然細微,但我卻在創作的過程之中完成了自我的存在感。而在創作、論述交織的過程中,發掘了即便處於使用互動社群平台的發達現在,我也還是流於傳統單向表達自己的齟齬感。因此,在寫論述的過程裡,精煉地將自己過多的感性沉澱下來,以便看清自己、創作及對應的當代的位置。
本論述將分為五個章節紀錄自己對於創作和藝術摸索的過程,及論述自己的創作思想、發展,並探討個人創作的定位,以及創作的走向及未來可能的發展面向。
由第一章從最初的創作動機與自我時代的背景談起,第二章紀錄自己創作媒材形式由摸索到確認的過程,第三章針對創作的內容作探討,在這章節中我將創作視為一段旅程。人們偶有藉著旅行來找到自己一說,我試想自己之所以展開創作這段旅程也是為了在現實中找到更清楚的自我形象及定位。在第四章節是創作說明,將作品分為三個階段,由小畫家階段為開端;到運用Paper53軟體創作;再試著將圖像與生活結合的階段。最後總結本論文研究及發展的狀態,並闡述創作後續的發展方向。
研究所的四年學習經驗,使我從一個單純的藝術喜好者、自以為是直覺式的創作者,變成對藝術創作有更縝密的思考、更深入的了解的人。而我也在論述的過程一次又一次釐清自我創作定位,並努力摸索使自己的創作更具層次、更細膩方面發展。
This thesis collects my personal exploration from the year 2013 until 2017. As for artistic creation, some people express themselves and point out their arguments and statements through it, while to me, creating arts leads me to the deeper thoughts and consideration about both everything in daily life and myself. The process of creating art works, by which I attempt to clarify myself and interpret the ideas from my mind, exactly makes me understand myself much more, as well as it helps me know the way to state my emotions and inner feelings. In some way, artistic creation means the process of figuring out who I am, yet the completion of this study defines where my art works would be in contemporary art. As Michel Foucault’s analysis of Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez (1656) in first chapter of The Order of Things (1966), he described the complex framework of visual relationship among painter, subject and viewer. He explained an episteme, which refers to way of thinking and discussed the knowledge as well as to understand the knowledge is the interplay between observer''s gaze and his representation. For example, the possibility of painter’s presence in Las Meninas can be viewed as he portrayed king and queen in the painting or he portrayed princess when viewer recognized the painter is an image of reflection. Therefore, the painter had two different representations and he can reconstructed their identity via this interpretation.
Nowadays, I do not have to paint for any royal authority, but only for myself through my observation and experiences. In the condition mentioned above and the current society with well-developed technology and abundant information, the visual information increases largely and becomes repid, which has resulted in my habits of immdiately and one-off viewing, clicking, forwarding, sharing, and responding the pieces of online information. All of the actions gradully expand to make a net building up my self-image, and they are moreover the key points of self-development and self-growth. This presents the sepcial method of recording and creating history in the modern time.
During the daily practices, I draw the simple images as a start and then create the works of my personal feelings and points of view, which form according to my surroundings and environment. Some of them come from my intuition, while some come from the influences of things on me or the embodiment of my brainstorming. I draw the pictures with mobile applications and upload them online right away, so that I can share my works with my friends, express my emotions, or even complain to recover my exhausted mind. This appears to be how I illustrate the society by digital media and social networks to creat the diary works reflecting on my daily life. This personal emotional releasing may be too trivial. However, the process of creating works still contains some meanings and make my sense of existence. Throughout my art creation and study, uploading my works does not bring any interaction, which I find should be emphasized on the social networks. Therefore, doing the study helps me develop more rational perspectives to more clearly see myself, my works, and their position in contemporary art.
This thesis with five section will 1) record my artistic creation and exploration, 2) state my thoughts of artistic creation, 3) locate my artistic creation in the contemporary art, 4) discuess the development and evolution of my artistic creation and 5) bring up the possible direction and development of my project in the future.
In the first section, I will discuss my motivation of artistic creation as well as my background in the current era. In the second section, I will record my exploration of artistic creation and explain what art materials I use in this project. In the third section, I will see my creation as a journey. People sometimes find themselves meaning by a trip. I will seek to understand myself more clearly in daily life by this journey of creation. In the fourth section, I will explain my art works and divid them to three parts. In the beginning,to utilize MS-Paint as a tool to draw my pictures. Secondly, I use the app Paper53 to create my works. Finally, I combine art works with surrounding life. In the fifth section, I will conclude my understanding of this project and elaborate the future direction of this project.
After the four years of learning experience in art in the graduate school, I acquire more comprehension of artistic creation from a beginner ‎art lover and an intuitive art creator. In the processing of articulating my views and perspectives of this dissertation, I realize how to develop my project of multiple viewpoints and fineness.
