本論文利用NAO機器人的語音辨識,視覺辨識和人型化肢體還有可以對談、互動等特性來擔任教師助理。本文分析教師助理需要具備的功能並透過軟體發展工具來設計NAO機器人程式協助授課老師教授與經營課程,這樣的方式可以視為機器人輔助語言學習(Robot-Assisted Language Learning,RALL)的一種實現。在本研究中,課堂教學過程內容的設計是以本實驗室先前提出的Interactive Drama Markup Language (IDML)為基礎,此擴充式IDML的編輯平台可以設計出多樣的課程教學內容和人機互動的劇本,在本文中將NAO機器人的教師助理工作的設計也納入IDML編輯平台的功能。由於對於一般教師來說機器人的操作及動作設計不是一項容易的技術,因此本研究提出一套視窗化的IDML課程教材編輯平台,來協助教師透過點選和編輯文字的方式,快速產生豐富的、可支援機器人課堂助理之互動式教材劇本,同時透過由IDML的Middleware將編輯好的互動式劇本文件對轉譯為對應的機器人指令來執行,並經由機器人身上各種感測器的資訊蒐集與回饋,來控制機器人與使用者進行互動,藉以增加學習者與課程教材間的互動與興趣,最終希望透過課堂的互動而達到更加吸引學生專注提高學習效果的目的。在此擴充式IDML編輯平台的支援下,課程教師可以實作出包括: 課堂管理功能、一般性課程進行之支援功能、口語課程特別支援功能、以及個別輔導模式等四類機器人課堂助理功能。
By using NAO robot’s characteristics, like speech recognition, visual recognition, humanized limbs, and the ability to talk and interact with human beings, NAO robot is applied as a teacher's assistant (TA) in a class in this thesis. We have analyzed the functions required for a TA and then designed NAO robot programs to help teacher teaching and managing courses in a class through a software development tool. This can be regarded as an implementation of Robot-assisted Language Learning -Assisted Language Learning (RALL). In this study, the material content of assisting a teacher’s tutoring in a class was designed based on the previous research called the Interactive Drama Markup Language (IDML) proposed by our laboratory. This extended version of IDML' authoring tool could be used to assist teachers to generate a variety of course materials with the associated human–TA interaction scripts. In this thesis, we have successfully included the feature of using NAO Robot as a TA in the IDML authoring tool. Since it is not an easy technique for the general teachers to design and manipulate robots, this study proposes a set of window-based IDML course materials authoring tool to help teachers quickly generate plenty of human-robot interactive script by selecting and editing text. The translation of the script to NAO robot and then to execute the instruction is implemented in the IDML Middleware. And also, the collected feedback sensing data from a robot sensors are used to control the interaction between a TA and its user in order to facilitate the interactions between students and the teaching materials. The student learning interests could thus be increased. Ultimately, we hope that the purpose of attracting more students' attention and improving the learning effect is achieved. Based on the support of the extended IDML authoring tool, 4 categories of robot TA functions could be implemented by a teacher. They are class management functions, general classing support functions, the functions of special support to the oral class, and individual counseling mode.
