約翰‧魯特(John Rutter,1945-)英國作曲家、指揮家、並創立了音樂同好唱片公司(Collegium Records)，作品種類繁多，創作超過六百首樂曲，錄製四十張以上的唱片；他獲得的榮譽有英國教會音樂家協會會員、英國坎特伯雷大主教授與蘭貝斯音樂榮譽博士、大英帝國三等勛爵士榮譽勳章，現今仍於音樂國際舞台上發光發熱。
　　《古風組曲》(Suite Antique)是魯特於1979年為庫克罕音樂節(Cookham Festival)而創作，為了對巴哈的音樂風格與型式致敬，使用與布蘭登堡協奏曲第五號相同的編制，以長笛、大鍵琴與弦樂團創作此組曲。此組曲一共由六個樂章組成：第一樂章〈前奏曲〉安靜而甜美；第二樂章為活潑且輕快的〈頑固低音〉；第三樂章為如歌的〈詠嘆調〉；第四樂章〈華爾滋〉則是充滿了爵士搖擺風格；第五樂章〈香頌〉有著如歌似的旋律；第六樂章〈輪旋曲〉使用持續且前進的節奏，魯特表示此樂章是最能表現自己風格的最佳寫照。本論文將對作曲家於1981年改編給長笛與鋼琴的版本為分析重點。
　　本論文共分為五章，第一章緒論，為研究此組曲之動機與目的、研究方法與步驟與文獻探討，第二章敘述作曲家之生平與創作風格，第三章為此組曲之創作背景、樂曲分析與比較樂曲來源，第四章樂曲演奏詮釋之探討，第五章為結論，期望本論文可使人瞭解作曲家創作之美好，並有助於長笛演奏者或教學者之用。

John Rutter (1945-) is a British composer, conductor, and founder of Collegium Records label. His work covers a wide range of genres, among which includes over 600 music pieces and over 40 records. He is an honorary Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians, a receiver of a Lambeth Doctorate of Music conferred by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and an awardee of CBE. Up to date, he is still a prominent artist in the international music society.

Suite Antique is composed by Rutter for Cookham Festival in 1979, as a tribute to J.S. Bach’s music style and form. This suite has the similar instrumention as Brandenburg Concertos No. 5, which include flute, harpsichord and string orchestra. This suite comprises six movements. The first movement “Prelude” is quiet and sweet, followed by a lighter and brisk “Ostinato”. The following “Aria” is described as being cantabile, whereas the fourth movement “Waltz” is jazzy. The fifth movement “Chanson" has a cantabile melodic theme, followed by the final “Rondeau”, which according to Rutter himself, is a continuous and progressive rhythm and represents his style the most. This thesis will focus on the version Rutter rearranged for flute and piano in 1981.

This thesis is divided into five chapters. The introduction opens with the motivation and goal of study this suite, as well as the methodology, steps and the literature reviews. Moving on, the paper describes the artist’s life and style of work. Chapter three explains the background of the suite, analysis of the music and comparison of the origins of music. Following that is the discussion of the interpretation of the suite, which leads to the final conclusion in chapter five. This thesis aims to help the public to understand the aesthetics of music composition and benefit flute musicians and students.
