ABSTRACT The aim of this work is to study how to automatically draw the path diagram of the cable layout based on the cable routing path, and generate the total length of the path according to the position of the cable tray or the pipeline configuration path. Under the Building Information Modeling (BIM) model, the "object" is established as the path through which the cable passes. Cable is the power source for all systems, such as public, air-conditioning, machinery, fire protection, interior, etc. The location and capacity of each system are constantly changing and correcting, especially with Space Management. Meanwhile, the cable path also changes with the location of each system. In order to automatically calculate and update the number of cables, the 3D geometric position of cables were be calculated from the position information of each system first. Following, the shortest distance between points A and B were be calculated, the optimal path between points were be evaluated, and the road map of the cables were be automatically draw out. With the path length, number of cables, and specifications of cables, users can find the information their need. The information then can be applied in different stage of the project management needs, also can produce the required information at any time to match frequently changing in locations or capacity of system. The BIM model can assist to track the number of cables in the entire life cycle of the project, control the quantity and specification changes, conducive to profitability of the project, and eliminate the uncertainty of the traditional budget estimates.
