This paper examines the effects climate has on building, planning and design, specifically
in the humid subtropical climate zone. The method is to use literature review of climate design
research in the like Cfa climate zones of Queensland, Australia, and Louisiana, USA, and by
method of comparison assess which climate strategies from these regions have potential for
implementation in the similar Cfa zone of Yilan County, Taiwan. Interviews with Yilan architects
offer a discussion about probable suitability of design adaptations for Yilan.
