In this study, we mainly discuss the influences of the interpretation service on the learning of insect concepts for children with mental retardation. The learning of insect concepts includes physical structure and function, life cycle, ecology, and behavior. “Do different interpretation strategies influence children’s learning on insect concepts?” is the main research question in this study. Six children with mental retardation are invited to participate in this action research. The results, in summary, suggest that: a) The effect of interpretation service on the learning of insect concepts is significant for children with mental retardation. b) Interpretation services with role-playings, and “five-senses” experiencing could increase the learning effectiveness of insect concepts for children with mental retardation. Finally, this study provides future research direction of interpretation service strategies for children with mental retardation.
