Liuqin as a solo instrument has now developed only more than fifty years and explained the reason of small number concerning liuqin solo repertories. The process of learning liuqin usually starts from traditional pieces, then to the recent compositions, finally to the transplanted pieces, and repertories of diverse musical styles enrich the musical tension and expression of liuqin music. Therefore, this paper respectively took the traditional piece Melody Accompany the Reflection of Moon, the recent composition The Sky with The Stars, and the transplanted repertory Tango as research subjects. The study started from the aspect of musical background. The Melody Accompany the Reflection of Moon is inspired by the Tang poet Bai Ju-Yi’s poem Song of the Pipa, and presents a rich folk style with its profound content; the The Sky with The Stars possesses the loving care towards the Seediq group with elegant melodies and the Mongolian long song is also applied as musical materials; the Tango, chosen from the movie Scent of a Woman, is a dance music with tango style, and the well- proportioned arrangement from lazy, humor to passion has fully illustrated the excellent synchronization while dancing a tango duet. After background analysis, it moved to the musical analysis and performing interpretation of the three mentioned pieces. The increasing amount of liuqin repertories, from the tradition, recent compositions to transplanted pieces, has elevated and enriched the arts and performing techniques of liuqin. From the research results, the musical tension and unlimited development of liuqin itself make liuqin music more potential. The analysis and interpretation of the three liuqin pieces aim to figure out the backgrounds, structures of every piece, to concretize the idea of interpretations, and finally to present the precious results after a comprehensive work. This research is expected to set an example for the future researchers to devote to liuqin-related researches to much elevate liuqin arts.
