Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic central nervous system degenerative disease that primarily affects the motor nervous system. Past literature suggests that Parkinson's disease may have problems with the gastrointestinal tract more than a decade before the onset of the disease. Mutual regulation between the Enteric nervous system and the Central nervous system may cause Parkinson's disease due to inflammation of the intestines. Based on this possibility, if you can provide early warning of gastrointestinal defects in Parkinson's disease, it may slow or prevent the disease from developing into the central nervous system. In addition, due to the abnormal immune response of some intestinal bacteria, the gastrointestinal tract develops a chronic inflammatory response, and the addition of probiotics can improve the imbalance of microorganisms in the intestinal tract.
Objective: Therefore, this study attempted to give probiotics early in the absence of disease (eighth week) in Parkinson's disease mice. The mice were treated before the onset to improve the gastrointestinal tract of the mice.Method: From the eighth of the week of age to the 16th (probiotics were added to the water feed of the probiotic group, while the control group was added with the same amount of water), and the weekly balance test and open space test were evaluated. The behavior changes, and his psychological status is assessed every two weeks, and his memory ability is assessed by a new object cognition test every four weeks.
Results: Preliminary results showed a trend toward improved motor performance, cognitive and memory function in mice with Parkinson's disease with early probiotic intervention. Conclusion: This study provides a possible physiological mechanism by which probiotics can prevent Parkinson's disease.
