Beach litter is a serious world problem. It not only seriously impacts marine life but also affects human populations. Obviously, human behaviors are the main driver of beach litter. Previous studies have mentioned that demographics of beach users, such as age, gender, class, race, and education, influence their choice of a beach destination and whether or not they behave in an environmentally responsible way while visiting said destination. Knowing the relation and influence of demographics are important to making changes that can improve beach conditions. So, the aim of this research-study is to examine the relationship between tourists’ demographic factors and their perceptions of beach litter and littering behavior in Kuta Beach and to develop an effective solution for decreasing the litter in Kuta beach. Kuta Beach is a famous tourist destination in Bali Island, but every year the litter problem at Kuta Beach continues. A survey was carried out at Kuta Beach in July and August 2018. This study used questionnaires to collect data, after which an ANOVA and linier regression were employed to analyze the data. The results show that out of five demographic factors (age, income, education, gender, and nationality), three are more strongly related to perceptions of litter on the beach, littering behavior, and tourist perceptions: age, education, and income. The most effective solution for reducing litter on Kuta Beach is to increase investment in environmental education and awareness, because the development around Kuta beach has not been accompanied by an increase in environmental education and awareness.
