Street dance has been developed in Taiwan for more than 30 years and affected by the globalization of popular and idol groups. The number of participations has increased year by decade, the demand for street dance space is also increasing rapidly. The street-dance-related researches in the past have focused more on the development and cultural aspects than public spaces of street dance. Furthermore, most of the research fields are in Taipei. Unlike Taipei, the street dance culture in Tainan has its own distinctiveness. The development of Tainan street dance not only just because of the production of space in the city, but also has a really special connection with the campus public spaces in National Cheng Kung University.

This study attempts to understand the development of National Cheng Kung University’ s public spaces, and through the analysis of Tainan street dance culture to clarify the relationship between public spaces and street dance. On the one hand, it is expected to explore the attitude of the stakeholders involved in the use of public spaces; on the other hand, it is hoped to clarify the way dancers use the campus public space and administrators’ attitude toward this issue. Then, it is expected to remodel the meaning of campus public spaces. The researcher also hopes that this study can develop a set of innovative application models of campus public space to achieve effective management of campus public space. What’s more, it is hoped to extend this public space study to encourage the development of creative city. Meanwhile, it is hoped to help the city arts and creative groups from bottom-up to the whole city to promote the development of arts and creativity.
