The preservation of historical sites or historical buildings is mainly to highlight its own characteristics and convey historical implication. In the process of historical continuation, no matter how the old buildings are preserved or reused, it will affect its preservation history. Or change the relationship with the surrounding environment. Especially the historic buildings with special place spirit, how to properly combine and reuse the means to give new life to the monuments, let the historical space and the modern society coexist, and highlight its special cultural value, which is an important topic for the preservation of historical buildings. This study will examine the preservation of historical sites and historical buildings in the local area by reusing the former site of the former Baisha Academy in Confucius Temple, to explore the historical architecture or field with a special place spirit, and to reuse the relationship between the method and the spirit of the place and local social development, and adopting the United Nations Sustainable Development Indicators to assess the sustainable development of historical space reuse with economic, social and environmental aspects. In the background of the history and place spirit of Baisha Academy, this paper analyzes the reuse forms of the various stages of the college and learns the expectations of the aesthetic and spiritual values of historical buildings in different time and space, social and economic environments, will be converted into a mode of operation for space, the behavior of reuse will also affect its own spatial significance and its role in social status. In addition, the reuse of historic buildings should be focused on the environmental protection, social development, and economic cycle, so as to reach the sustainable development. Therefore, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of United Nations and the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainable development were used to assess the historical space reuse. Outcomes shows that the reuse form should confirm to SDGs, i.e. the reuse form should have balance development in economic, social and environmental aspects.
