本研究以習華語四歲兒童為對象,分為四歲零至三個月(18位,平均年齡:49.4個月)以及四歲四至七個月(18位,平均年齡:54個月)兩組,探討兩組兒童在敘事能力表現之差異以及兒童在故事回憶表現與陳述記憶之關聯。所有兒童皆完成四項主要作業,包括ERRNI敘事測驗、自編陳述記憶配對作業、聽名指圖測驗、看圖命名測驗;其中ERRNI敘事測驗包含故事敘述、故事理解以及故事回憶三項分測驗。結果顯示兩組在三項敘事測驗之差異未達顯著,且敘事之表現與年齡相關不顯著。此外,兩組在三項敘事的分數之95%信賴區間皆高度重疊,表示兩組兒童表現同質性高。研究結果亦顯示所有兒童之故事回憶分數和配對作業分數無相關且研究者發現配對作業與看圖命名呈現顯著中度正相關(r = .41、.40,p <.05 ),表示本研究所使用的配對作業無法完全排除口語命名造成的影響。綜合上述結果,年齡相距在半年以內的習華語四歲零至七個月兒童在敘事表現上並未如ERRNI敘事測驗的年齡組別出現明顯的發展趨勢。此外,過去研究經常用來測試個體陳述記憶能力的配對作業並未如預期與故事回憶有顯著的連結。未來在評估四歲兒童敘事能力或編製相關敘事測驗時可以較大的年齡範圍作為年齡區間,而未來研究可透過重新檢視兒童執行配對作業與陳述記憶之間的關係,進一步釐清陳述記憶對於整體語言表現的影響。
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the relationship between narrative skill and declarative memory in 4 years old children. Two groups of children, aged 4;0 to 4;3 and 4;4 to 4;6, participated in the study. All participants completed four tasks: The Expression, Reception, and Recall of Narrative Instrument(ERRNI), paired associate tasks, a receptive vocabulary task, and expressive vocabulary task. In the ERRNI test, children’s storytelling, story recall and story comprehension were measured. The results showed that age was not significantly correlated with any one of the three story measures and group differences in the three story measures were not significant. In addition, the two groups also showed high degrees of overlap in all three story measures in terms of 95% CI. Scores in expressive vocabulary was significantly correlated with performance in both of the paired associate task and story comprehension. Although the two 4-year-old groups belong to different age groups in the ERRNIT test, they did not show a clear difference in the narrative measures. In addition, we did not observe a clear association between story recall and paired associate, a conventional measure for declarative memory. In the future evaluation of the narrative skills or construction of related test, the result suggested to apply a larger age range in 4-year-old children. Besides, recommendation for future research will be in reviewing the correlation between paired associate performance and declarative memory to know much more about how the declarative memory have impact on the performance of whole language skills.
