In Taiwan, 35.6% of the elderly people in the nursing home are depressed. The proportion is much higher than that among the elderly people living in the community or at home (25.5%). The limited space of the nursing home has a negative impact on the intention for the elderly people to exercise. Because of the two unfavorable factors, it is difficult to enhance the elderly people’s emotional state and the exercise intention. The study aims to understand the correlation between exercise intention and well-being of the elderly people by using the exergame as an intervention. The exergame only requires about 3 to 6 square meters of space and it is entertaining and can be a way to do exercise. The participants were 30 elderly people over 65 years old in the nursing home of Taiwan. They were able to act at least slowly. An interactive sitting exercise program designed by physiotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists is used. The study divided participants into experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in the exergame for eight weeks and a total of 16 activities, while the control group did not. The two groups of participants completed “The Chinese Aging Well Profile” and “The Intention of Exergame Scale” before and after the intervention of exergame in order to measure the elderly people’s well-being and intention to exercise. Paired sample t-test was used for examining the differences between pre- and post-data. Regression analysis is used for the investigation of the relationship between the intention to exercise and well-being. Results shows that exergame intervention can significantly increase social interaction and maintain the intention of the elderly people to exercise. Well-being is significantly increasing after the intervention of exergame, especially in health, autonomy, and social facets. Moreover, the intention to exercise can positively predict the well-being. Therefore, the exergame is suitable for the elderly people and has a good influence on physical and mental health. It is recommended that the nursing home can use exergame for the elderly people to exercise as one of the multi-activity choices.
