This study aimed at analyzing demonstration and layout of moral and civic textbooks, and teacher’ s guide book for French primary education. The researcher analyzed the following materials, two students’ textbooks and two guide books for teachers by Hatier pulisher. The themes, moral and civic values, competence indicators, layout in student’s and teacher’s textbooks were explored by the method of content analysis. The main findings of this study were as following: First, deomonstration of student’s textbook was arranged by curriculum guideline, in which themes were among individuals and groups, and the main moral and civic values were respect and right. Second, layout of textbooks was illustrated with pictures and texts which were structurally composed of various elements and critical thinking questions. Third, layout of teachers’ guide books were composed of background knowledge, the pedagogical approach, warm-up, debate, organization and assessment, which were specially focus on debate training for oral expression. Based on the findings, the reaseacher provided three recommendations for Taiwanese social studies textbooks in primary school. First, questions in textbooks would be deepened for critical thinking training. Second, oral expression in textbooks would be emphasized. Finally, Taiwanese commun value would be rethought.
