The 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo is one of the largest international sightseeing events in Taiwan recently. Over the past few decades, many countries or cities have found the impact of large-scale international activities on its sustainable development. Thus, the authorities would make every effort to obtain the right to host the global events- mainly to increase the visibility, attractiveness and economic influence of a city or destination in the short or long term. The 2018 World Flora Expo is a large international event organized by Taichung City– to regard as an urban and local reengineering strategy, the Government is working closely with the local tourism industry Also, they build a number of infrastructures to make the event more completely. By holding this event, the authority expects the resident of Taichung to develop their sense of local identity of this city.

In this study, the theory of social exchange and the theory of interested parties is used through, the two-stage investigation method- to track the changes of residents '' cognition and attitude before and after the event, and to explore the influence of residents on the perceived benefit and perceived cost of the 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo, as well as the in impact on the sense of local identity. In this study, 239 valid questionnaires were recovered, the results showed that the perceived political benefit of Taichung residents had a positive effect on local identity, and the perceived environmental cost and social cost had a negative impact on local identity. In addition, it was found that the influence of residents '' perceived political benefit decreased after the event was held, while the influence of perceived environmental cost and social cost increased. The results of this study are helpful for local government to understand the residents '' feelings of their living places where large-scale international events are held, as well as to provide references to academic researchers and relevant authorities for holding future large-scale international events.
