This study examines the main effects of goal setting, and creativity self-efficacy as well as their interaction on creativity performance. This study recruits 83 students (with 71 useful responses) as the participants in an experiment that manipulates goal setting at two levels (no goal, or setting ambiguous goal such as “do your best”), and measures creativity self-efficacy of the participants who are randomly assigned to one of the two conditions of goal setting. The task in the experiment involves designing the use of a long time unused building on the campus. Their design is then rated by independent raters who are not aware of the objectives of the study, with their creativity rating serving as the dependent measure. The results show that setting a goal (as opposed to no goal) improves creativity performance. Creativity self-efficacy is not significantly associated with creativity performance, nor is interaction between goal setting and creativity self-efficacy.
