Since both Taiwan and China went through different phases of reforms. The perception of the deepened globalization of economic and trade connection across the Taiwan Strait over the past decades in various fields, including a strategic importance of the ICT industry, contributing not only in rapid growth of their national economies, but further continuous advances in the semiconductor industry as one of these growing influencing factors of the making of the Taiwan Strait relations today. Although there are many factors affect the Taiwan Strait development, one of these factors is resumed for the liberalization of the ICT semiconductor trade sector. The aim of this research is to investigate the way in which growing economic interdependence between Taiwan and China further reduces the risks and tension, which uncertainties itself could be a contributing factor to a conflict and tension across the Strait. Drawing upon such observation, it is apparent that the economic integration between Taiwan and China has been, with Taishang at the helm, serving as one of the driving factors for China’s ongoing market transformation, and it is definitely a primary subject of social and political discussion across the Strait, which indicates an obvious sign that China has placed an increasing emphasis on the ICT semiconductor trade and business exchanges with Taiwan.
The research focuses on exports and investment variables as a means to explain the factors and trend influencing current Taiwan Strait trade and business exchanges. Also, this thesis adopts timely and comprehensive trade and investment by utilization of the secondary data to interpret the impact of massive investment and ICT export orders from Taiwan to China. Over a period of time, the current Taiwan Strait trade and business exchanges have been loosened its restrictions on investment and High-tech. Thus, Taiwan and China have been trying to strengthen trade and business exchanges, as both countries have tried to maintain stability through more discussion and agreements in terms of transit trade and transit passengers, as subsequently there has been significant liberalization of the financial sector of the ECFA.
The case study in this research is an outstanding IC foundry enterprise: TSMC invests in HSP and other science parks in Taiwan, having eight plants in Taiwan along with its other investments in a few foreign countries including those in Singapore, ‘TSMC Shanghai', and another recently TSMC supply chain in Nanjing City. A TSMC SWOT analysis depicted a broad marketing strategy and substantial findings: since 2017 TSMC market share hiked to more than 56% of the global foundry. According to OSAT sources, TSMC’s cutting edge firm today is 2 years ahead of its rival Samsung and 19 months ahead of American rival Intel. Market watchers are enthusiastically witnessing today the current trend of coopetition among the ICT semiconductor firms, which reflects the cross-Strait dynamic economic interdependence.
