Through rapid improvement of technology, more and more petrochemical products are developed, as well as the productivity of crops boosted incredibly. Plastic bags and cases became the main packaging materials to wrap up foods. From groceries, instant noodles to pre-cooked foods, everything we can imagine are all packaged with plastic materials. And the unit price of crops declined so that it is easier to purchase a big amount of foods nowadays. However, the convenience we had is harming our environment. The rising waste makes us wonder what kind of consuming style we should dedicate to?
This paper explores the green consumption theory, discovering how can we minimize the usage of plastic packaging. We aim to learn more about how the world is developing packaging-free stores as well as how such concept integrates with the localization process in Taiwan. In Taiwan traditional grocery stores is the best example of localization and we will take one section to discuss how they were developed, indicating the similarities between them and packaging-free stores.
A case study approach was conducted in this paper. Unpackaged U. was the packaging-free store that we are going to discuss. In-depth interview will be held with the owner of Unpackaged U. to truly grasp potent positive view on this new trend of business. Through interview can also notice how the world trend is integrated with Taiwanese market, listing the advantage and obstacles when running such business.
This research concludes with a thorough analysis of Unpackaged U. and create a systematic structure of the future development of packaging-free stores in Taiwan so that for the enterers they will be able to follow the paths and bring the packaging-free market to prosperity.
