Jingdong and Tao bao are two giant e-commerce platforms in China. The y
operate online stores that are accessible to the Chinese market and international
mar ket. Jingdo ng and Taobao are heavily relied on technology to conduct their
business, in this regar d, research and de velopment of technologies is a central
activity in both companies. Altho ugh the two companies are each other ’s most
formidable rivals, the advances in technology the y have ac hie ved is not only
complementally, but places China’s electronic commerce in a leadership position
across the globe. This research demonstrates the different technologies de velope d
and deploye d by Jingdong and Tao bao, with a view of ide ntifying t heir
similarities, differences, and uniqueness. Although Taobao benefits from the huge
support from its owner Alibaba, Jingdong has made significant contributions to
retailing technologies as well.
