This research paper focuses on Taiwan’s Foreign Aid through its Technical assistance mission in the Solomon Islands, although the diplomatic relations between both countries is non-existent since the September of 2019. As Taiwan is sidelined from most of the literature on foreign aid, the paper redirects attention to one of the modern economies and its drive to stamp its international image among the world’s wealthiest economies and international donor regime.
Through the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), Taiwan has helped improved allies and friendly countries alike through technical cooperation. Solomon Islands has among the Pacific Islands received the largest share of technical assistance to its different sectors, most notably the Agriculture and Food sector (throughout the duration of their diplomatic alliance).
The researcher had identified that a mixed method was to be employed in the research. Questionnaires were put at the Taiwan Technical Mission center in Honiara, Solomon Islands for local farmers/businesses to answer whenever they visited the mission center.
The research has found that the country has benefited a lot from Taiwan Technical Mission. Local farmers/businesses have increased in production output, new skills and knowledge has been acquired and people were lifted out from poverty and their socioeconomic statuses has improved since joining the mission for over three decades. The severing of diplomatic ties between both countries is a huge loss for Solomon Islands farmers/businesses.
