Under the wave of globalization, companies must face rapid competitive pressures as well as meet the demands of customers and market instantly. Therefore, developing a sustainable innovation capability is necessary for maintaining the company’s competitiveness. However, the startups which equipped with the ability of highly flexible and creation are spring up in this fast-competitive market. Although the startup owns knowledge base in its professional field, it still needs to obtain complementary resources by external networks to filling up the shortage. Nevertheless, during the process of resource sharing and acquisition, how the absorption capacity of the organization affects the quality of obtaining resource and further influences the innovation performance.
Therefore, this study has been complied the relationship between resource-based view (RBV) and absorptive capacity to explore the relationship of startup between internal, external resources (i.e., network resources and knowledge base) and knowledge sharing. Second, exploring whether absorptive capability interferes with the relationship among internal, external resources and knowledge sharing. Finally, we explored the impact between knowledge sharing and innovation performance.
The sample of this study is based on “Angel and New Resource Platform – New Enterprise Database” published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2018. There were 154 valid questionnaires collected. The empirical results of this study shows that: (1) External resources (i.e., network centrality and network density) have positive impact on knowledge sharing; (2) Internal knowledge bases (knowledge depth and knowledge breadth) have positive impact on knowledge sharing; (3) Absorptive capability enhances the positive effect of network centrality, knowledge depth and knowledge sharing; (4) Knowledge sharing has positive impact on innovation performance. Finally, based on the results of the research, this study proposed theoretical and practical implications and some recommendations for future research.
