In this thesis, we proposed a strong diffraction model for a volume holographic optical element with complex wavefront. We try to make a connection between the phase mismatch factor of the VOHIL model by Prof. Sun and the coupling strength factor of couple mode theory. Based on these two models, we calculation the diffraction distribution from the complex volume hologram. In the simulation and the corresponding experiment, we analyze the diffraction of strong volume hologram with phase match and phase mismatch. Finally, we study the variation of the diffraction distribution and Bragg selectivity with different coupling strengths.
