Lips are the most direct communication channel. Imagine it as a structure that accumulates various thoughts and desires. The words spoken may be affected by our experience, collective subconsciousness or accumulation of knowledge and beliefs, or even biological instinct to cover up personality. In response to that, the author hopes to use the visual influence of the imagination of emotions and desires of lips by creating various ceramic works.
In this creation, the hollow container lip is molded and hand-carved, and the original color, shape, size, and material impression of the lips are change in various forms. By expanding the mouth beyond its actual size and glaze and texture, the defamiliarization method re-examines the symbolism of the mouth. To make the audience break through habitual thinking, they also carried out more reflection and exploration of the importance of using and paying attention to words between people.
The thesis divided into 6 Chapter: Chapter 1, introduction author looks back and exam its creations, from the growth process, ceramic art learning experience, and discussion, to understand more connection between one’s creation and explain the motivation of creation and draw up the creation process and structure. Chapter 2, literature discussion and theory that explores, thesis focused on expression techniques of enlargement, confusion, and juxtaposition, substitution and transfer, and the meaning and positioning of symbols. Through the symbolic meaning of the mouth, the relationship between human and mouth, and the relationship between soil and creation, developed the theoretical foundation of creation. Chapter 3, creative methodology, creating starts from the experiment of lip shaping, with glaze, reflects, and summarizes the applied works of the tried techniques and glaze. Chapter 4, “Emotional Experience of Lips Exhibition Works,” introduces the exhibition works, work techniques, and creative concepts based on the exploration of expression techniques and the recognition of the symbols of the mouth. It also discusses the relationship between the mouth and people. Chapter 5, the conclusion, summarizes the author's creation exposition, the results of the creation process, expectations, and outcomes. Chapter 6, future prospects and directions, the thesis conclude with the next creation and direction and exhibition experience.
