Wu Sheng, a native writer who emerged as a poet of the rural around 1980s in Taiwan, has always taken “Write about Taiwanese, describe Taiwan affairs, depict Taiwan sceneries and express Taiwan emotions.” as his writing notion. Through collection of poems, proses and other pieces created by Wu Sheng since 1963, the author discovers that “childhood” has constantly being mentioned in subjects of local images, natural environment, land ethics as well as family ethics. Hence, the author decides to further discuss the perspective of childhood in Wu Sheng's pieces.
Although Wu Sheng never clearly express the opinion that his poems and proses were specifically created for children, via thorough observation, his childhood has been brought into his pieces and unconsciously reveal his love thereof and humanistic care. Also, Wu Sheng's pieces have continuously been adopted as the selective reading materials for elementary, junior and high school students and therefore imposed great influences on them.
Given such, the author wishes to explore the childhood images in Taiwan's early countryside and contrast the present and the past in order to learn the literary perspective of Wu Sheng. Moreover, the author also expects to promote the reading habits among children with different ages and instigate and diversify their thinking through this research.
